Rain radar – current rain forecast

The weather can change quickly, and it is good to know where exactly the rain is going. With the rain radar, you always have the current weather situation in view! But what is rain radar, how does it work and what can it predict?

What is a rain radar?

A rain radar is an instrument that is used to predict precipitation. There are different types of rain radar, but most of them work in the same way: They send a radar beam into the atmosphere and track how the beam reflects off of raindrops. These reflections can then be used to predict the movement of the raindrops.

Rain radars are very useful for predicting weather conditions, especially in the context of severe storms. They can help warn people of dangerous weather conditions and give them time to get to safety. Rain radars are also useful for agriculture, as they can help save crops before bad weather arrives.

How does a Rain radar work?

The movement of the rain of the last hour can be played back via the play button. A Rain radar is an instrument that tracks the movement of Rain clouds and measures their intensity. Meteorologists often use it to predict the direction and speed of rain or snow showers.

Rain radars work by emitting electromagnetic waves, the echo of which is reflected back by the raindrops or snow crystals. The radar can then determine how heavy the precipitation is based on the strength of the echo. Rain radars can also track other types of weather phenomena, such as tornadoes or thunderclouds.

How accurate are the predictions?

When you look at forecasts from rain radar or other weather services, you may find that the accuracy of the forecasts varies widely. The forecasts can be given a few hours in advance, but also several days in advance. For example, a forecast for this afternoon may be accurate, but one for tomorrow morning may not be.

The accuracy of rain forecasts depends on several factors. First, of course, is how accurate the forecast is based on the weather model. As a rule, the better the model, the more accurate the forecast. On the other hand, it also plays a role in how good the measurement data are that are used in the model. For example, if the measurement data for a particular location is not very accurate, that can affect the accuracy of the prediction.

So there is no simple answer to the question of how accurate rainfall forecasts are. However, they are usually pretty reliable and can help you adjust to the weather.

Why is rain radar often inaccurate?

Rain radar is an important tool for making rainfall forecasts. However, it is often off the mark. There are several reasons why this is so. One of the reasons is that the radar only sees precipitation that is directly below the clouds. So it can happen that there is no rain in a region even though the radar shows precipitation. This is usually because the clouds in the region are higher and the rain has already dissipated before it can fall to the ground.

Another reason is that the radar is often in a region where there is no rain at the moment. This can happen, for example, when a thunderstorm cell passes by and the rain has already dissipated before it can fall to the ground. In this case, the radar is not able to see the rain. A final reason is that sometimes errors occur in the radar. These errors can occur, for example, when the atmosphere is very dusty or sandy. In this case, the signals of the radar can be deflected or disturbed and it can happen that the radar shows precipitation, although in reality there is none.

What is the rainiest city in the world?

According to a study by the University of Colorado Boulder, the rainiest city in the world is Mumbai, India. The city received the title because it receives an average of 940 millimeters of rainfall annually.

Mumbai is not the only city in India that receives rainfall. Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore are also very rainy cities in India. However, the four cities have different rainfall patterns. While Mumbai can receive rain throughout the year, the other three cities receive rain mainly during the months of June to September.
